Currently there are 3 main types of blog spam:

* Comment Spam
* TrackBack Spam
* Contact Form Spam

Comment Spam

1. Akismet (this is the best anti spam plugin you can ever get).
After installing the Akismet plug-in for WordPress or one of the third party Akismet implementations, you will need an API key to activate and use Akismet.

You can get a free API key by registering for a WordPress.com user account. The API key will be emailed to you after you register.

2. Math Comment Spam Protection Plugin
This plugin for WordPress 1.5.2, 2.0.x and 2.1 asks the visitor making the comment to answer a simple math question. This is intended to prove that the visitor is a human being and not a spam robot.

Trackback Spam:

3. Simple Trackback Validation Plugin
It eliminates spam trackbacks by retrieving the web page located at the URL used in the trackback and checking if the page contains a link to your blog: if not, the trackback is placed into comment moderation queue.

Contact Form Spam:
4. Enhanced WordPress contactform
This Plugin is an enhancement of wp-contactform plugin and it adds:
* the referring page on the site;
* the original referrer to the mailform (whether that was another website or a search engine);
* the keywords used if it was a search engine.

If you install this 4 plugins I guarantee you that you’ll spend more time posting than deleting spam messages.
